Aviemore is an ideal base for exploring The Cairngorms and has a wide range of activities on it’s doorstep as well as over a dozen bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets, and all within walking distance of Ardlogie Guest House. Below we have listed just a small selection of the places worth a visit whilst you are in the Cairngorm National Park. This is not an exhautive list and don’t forget to check out our other pages under ‘Things To Do’ where you’ll fine many other ideas.

Cairngorm Mountain
A ‘must do’ is a visit to Cairngorm Mountain and a ride on the funicular railway. This exciting journey really is a wonderful experience, winter or summer. The views from the top are superb, weather permitting, the breezes on the viewing patio bracing, and the Cairngorm Mountain Experience Visitor Centre is great fun. You can also enjoy a snack or a cup of coffee in the highest restaurant in the land !






Rothiemurchus Estate

Rothiemurchus is a superb Highland Estate located just a few minutes from Ardlogie Guest House here in Aviemore, at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. It’s got an excellent reputation and is seen by many of our guests as one of the finest outdoor recreation centres in the North of Scotland. It’s a fantastic place that offers you a unique blend of stunning landscapes, wonderful wildlife, exciting outdoor activities and superb shopping, all in an area of outstanding natural beauty. You can enjoy over 30 different activities, all with qualified instructors where appropriate, and all set against a backdrop of breathtaking surroundings with beautiful lochs, rivers & moorlands.

The Potting Shed tea rooms – situated within Inshriach Alpine Nursery about 5 miles from Ardlogie

Landmark Forest Theme park
A great family day out with forest trails taking you on a tour from seed to saw-mill. Water rides, climbing wall, adventure play areas, Fire Tower, Ropeworx, sky dive and microworld.

Highland Wildlife Park
Discover Scotland’s wildlife, past and present within the spectacular setting of the Cairngorms National Park. Encounter fascinating creatures including bison, capercaillie, lynx, wolves, polar bears and wildcats. Open all year. Giftshop and café

Strathspey Steam Railway
Experience the magic of steam – a short walk from Ardlogie






Visit the Osprey Centre
The Osprey can be seen nesting between May and October. They can also be seen daily flying past Ardlogie on route for a snack at the local fish farm.

Shinty – find out all about this sport and maybe watch a game. Two top flight clubs (Kingussie and Newtonmore) only a short drive from Aviemore

Take a 30 minute drive and then take a cruise along Loch Ness.

Seals and Dolphins
Take a drive to the Moray Firth area for some dolphin spotting.

The Highland Folk Museum
Discover the world of the Highlander through windows of time – located at Newtonmore.

Cairngorm Brewery
Visit the local Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore – take home a taste of Aviemore and the Cairngorms !
